Nationals Live - Day 2
June 27, 2008
We’re back for the second day of the 2nd Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals on a beautiful sunlit morning! The showers that rolled through yesterday interrupted, but didn’t stop, the action on the track. We got the day’s program complete just before the monsoon hit! The ceremony for Scott Kalitta yesterday evening was moving, to say the least, but that’s a topic for another story. Today we have the first two rounds of Professional qualifying scheduled, so tell the boss that you’re too busy to go to work today, and come on out!
10:00 - The first round of sportsman eliminations is under way. Super Stock has already run through their first, and Super Gas is presently working their way through. First qualifying sessions for Top Alcohol are set to go at 2:00, Pro Stock at 3:30, and the nitro cars are scheduled for 4:30.
12:00 - Comp Eliminator qualifying rounds are just starting. The smell of nitro is faintly evident as some of the Pro teams have obviously done some early tuning. And to think this show is just getting under way.
2:00 - We got a jump on the schedule and got to the Alcohol cars a little earlier than expected. Not one oildown all day may have something to do with that. There are still a few Alcohol burners left to go, then we head into the Pro Stockers. It's still a beautiful day out here and we're enjoying the sunshine!
5:00 - We have an unusual situation. We are down at the moment because of some water seeping through the track in the shutdown area. We're about half way through Pro Stock, and the nitro cars are in the staging lanes. We'll be back at it as soon as we dry the top end.
