Nationals Sunday

June 29, 2008

We’re back with the final day of the 2nd Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Pre-race ceremonies will kick off at 10:00 this morning with final elimination to follow immediately at 11:00. Once again we’d like to congratulate Allen Johnson for his win in the K&N Horsepower Challenge yesterday. His brilliant 0.000 light was the winning factor over Greg Anderson’s quicker time. If you’re one of the unlucky people who can’t be here with us today, stay tuned here for periodic updates and news as the day unfolds.

12:30 - The first professional round is in and some of the fastest times of the weekend showed up unexpectedly. The Funny Cars did some serious skating around on the long end of the quarter mile, and if it weren't for some skillful driving, more than one pass would have ended with both cars in the same lane. Chris Rivas seems to be on the same roll he was on last week. His first pass this morning was a 6.99 to set low ET for the weekend.

2:30 - Round two is history, and there have been a few surprises. Allen Johnson, yesterday's K&N Horsepower Challenge winner, went down on a holeshot! That's irony since his win yesterday was attributable to a 0.000 reaction time. Now it looks like we're going to be down for a bit for a rain delay.

5:00 - Down to the finals of the 2nd Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. In Top Fuel, Brandon Bernstein will go up against Doug Herbert, Funny Car has Robert Hight facing Tony Pedregon, Pro Stock pits Greg Anderson against Larry Morgan, and in Pro Stock Bikes has Hector Arana and Craig Treble.
